"Prior to joining MEDStrength, I spent most of my adult life avoiding any form of exercise. Never having been even remotely athletic, I avoided any and all sorts of physical activity. I found exercise to be utterly boring and existing only to reaffirm how unfit and uncoordinated I actually was.

I endeavored to manage my weight and health through diet and my God-given metabolism. That worked until I hit 50, and I was faced with having to do "something" beyond what always used to work.

When I started strength training with Hugh, I felt that my strength, especially my arms and legs, was not what it was previously when I was younger.  My mother had a lot of pain in her legs as she got older and I didn't want to go through the same thing.  So, I knew strength training would help.
 
I have been training for four years now, and it's amazing how much stronger and better I feel.  Not only are my arms and legs stronger, but so is my core strength.  I also appreciate the change in my cardio and vascular health.
 
When asked by friends about strength training and having a personal trainer, I tell them that I knew nothing about working with weights and not wanting to hurt myself, I wanted someone personal attention to make sure I was training properly.  I wanted someone who knew what I needed and how to get me there.
 
A story that really got me even more serious about strength training was when the US Airways Airbus was set down on the Hudson River by Pilot Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger.  The story stated that many people on that plane did not have the strength to rescue themselves and had to have help getting out of the plane unto the wing and into air rafts.  Fortunately, there was enough time to help them.  I don't want to be one of those people.  I want to have the strength to rescue myself from most situations.  I believe strength training has me well on the way to accomplishing that.

“I kept trying to capture the workout days of 20+ years ago.  I found that I just could not get it going in a traditional gym because I no longer knew what worked nor do I  have the time I used to have. Personal trainers I talked to wanted more that I could do in time, money and commitment. I spent countless hours aimlessly wandering around weight machines and other bewildered people my age getting no results. I dreaded going and decided that I needed to accept it all due to aging,  I was just going to decline from here on out in strength, stamina, muscle tone and just plain looking good! I knew I deserved more and was capable of more. I was looking for direction in how to reshape my body as close to how I used to be many years ago so that I am lean, and muscular. I wanted to wear clothing that represented my true self. In 6 months I have lost 9 lbs of fat and replaced it with muscle. I am wearing clothes that I put in the donation pile. Every part of my body is more tone and my stomach is by far flatter (and stays that way!). I went to my 30 year class reunion feeling fantastic and proud!! My bone density is starting to show increase and my blood tests show favorable results in every category. My doctor is extremely pleased. Before I started with Hugh I trained for marathons. I mostly ran endless miles for hours at a time and mixed it up with weights once a week or so. I didn’t necessarily enjoy running, but felt it was what I had to do to get rid of the fat. I was really disappointed with the results of 3 years of running, including 2 half marathons and 2 full marathons. I didn’t lose a pound! I got these results in just 12 weeks of training with Hugh.
